In February, Mark Zuckerberg shared a nostalgic post on Threads, comparing his early days at Facebook to the present.
While the post aimed to reflect on his journey, a keen-eyed Threads user recently noticed something intriguing in the background: a pair of unusual glasses.
Matthew Karolian from The Boston Globe highlighted the eyewear, suggesting they might be forthcoming AR glasses from Meta.
His post included a zoomed-in image of the glasses, prompting curiosity and speculation.Zuckerberg responded to Karolian’s post, saying, “Will be ready to share more later this year.” This response hints at Meta’s ongoing work in AR technology, potentially unveiling new hardware soon.
In an interview last month, Zuckerberg mentioned that Meta is “almost ready” to reveal a prototype of its “full holographic” AR glasses.
This prototype, part of the project internally known as Orion, is expected to be showcased at Meta’s annual Connect developer conference this fall.
The prototype, described as “not the most stylish,” features thicker frames to accommodate the AR technology. This design has reportedly been met with mixed reactions.
Current and former Meta employees expressed concerns about the thick frames, and eyewear partner EssilorLuxottica, known for Ray-Ban smart glasses, reportedly “balked at the design.
