Concord is a 2024 multiplayer first-person shooter game created by Firewalk Studios and published by Sony Entertainment. The game was released for PlayStation 5 and PC on August 23, 2024. It received mixed reviews from critics and suffered from poor sales.
Well! Nobody is interested in taking a free gunner’s job anymore. Particularly when it is priced at $40.
Despite its prominence in the widely popular hero-shooter genre, Concord has been a complete disappointment. “We have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6th, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players,” stated Concord Game Director Ryan Ellis in a disappointing PlayStation blog post.
The website steamDB keeps track of how many people play games on PC; Concord’s highest recorded number of concurrent users was 660. This number is far from encouraging. If officially confirmed, these disappointing outcomes have potentially resulted in one of the most severe financial gaming failures observed in recent times.
The game will be removed from sale immediately, and anyone who purchased it on the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct will be refunded to their original payment methods. Those who purchased on Steam and the Epic Games Store will be refunded in the coming days.
Elliot contends that Concord ought to have been a free-to-play game from the outset, or at the very least, incorporated into the PlayStation Plus subscription plan, to have a greater chance of success in a crowded genre.
Sony could still try to pick up more players by relaunching the game as a free experience, but the damage might have already been done.
