Meta

Meta reportedly has fired two dozen of its staff from its Los Angeles office for misusing their meal vouchers to carry out their personal needs, like buying groceries, laundry detergent, wine glasses, and acne treatment pads. Some even were abusing the allowances to order meals while they were at home, as the company intended for the credits to be used in offices.

This news has been circulating all over the internet, and it turns out to be completely accurate, as the source close to the company confirmed the rumor to CNN.

Tech giant Meta is known to provide many allowances and benefits to its employees. The majority of its offices have the comfort of built-in luxury food courts that offer its staff completely free meals. In the case of small offices, Meta provides money vouchers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, each carrying a value of up to $25.

After the speculations by Meta, it turns out that many of the employees have been taking advantage of the vouchers for a very long time. The news was somewhat acknowledged by Meta when it shared on Tuesday that it is laying off people in the company as a series of separate restructuring.

“Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy,” Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton said in a statement. “This includes moving some teams to different locations and moving some employees to different roles. In situations like this, when a role is eliminated, we work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees.”

However, there is still no actual statement from Meta on how many employees were fired.
