Google has expanded its artificial intelligence capabilities within its web browser by introducing Gemini in Chrome to users in India. The feature enables users to utilize the company’s generative AI assistant through a dedicated side panel, which operates inside the browser, allowing them to stay on their current webpage.

The new side-panel design places Gemini alongside any open tab, enabling users to perform additional tasks while continuing their primary browsing activity. The AI system utilizes this interface to produce article summaries while it processes data from multiple websites and assists users with research across multiple tabs. The approach aims to reduce the need for switching between pages when gathering information or completing online tasks.

Google has added a new feature called Nano Banana 2, which functions as an image editing tool that operates inside the browser environment. Users can use the Gemini panel to enter their instructions, which enables them to change web page images without requiring downloads or separate editing applications. The tool uses text prompts to enable users to modify visual elements through quick visual transformation, which includes scene changes and lighting adjustments.

The system launching process requires another critical component that provides accessibility to multiple languages. The updated system supports more than 50 languages. The system includes multiple Indian languages, which are commonly spoken by people, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil. The multilingual system will enable AI-assisted browsing to reach more people throughout India.

Google services, which include Gmail, Calendar, Maps, and YouTube, work together with Gemini through its integration with Chrome. The AI uses these integrations to perform tasks, which include email drafting, video summarization, and travel information collection without requiring users to launch multiple applications.

The feature introduction demonstrates Google’s dedication to integrating generative AI technology into standard digital applications. The company plans to use Gemini as a built-in tool within Chrome to create a research platform that enables users to conduct research, communicate, and complete creative projects with real-time AI support.
