Removing the old wallpaper in favor of a new one is the first step to refreshing the appearance of your Mac. To change the wallpaper, go to System Settings or System Preferences from the Apple menu > choose Wallpaper.
You can pick a static picture under Dynamic Wallpapers, Pictures, or Light & Dark Wallpapers. Or, if you want, you can pick a solid background color under Colors.

To add widgets, click the time and data in the upper-right corner of the display > select the Notification Center > click the Edit widgets button > peruse the list of widgets and click the plus button to add them.
You can combine different color presets for highlights and system accents to create a fresh color scheme. You can do this by going to the System Settings app > Appearance > Pick new colors under Highlight color and Accent color. The custom color scheme will reflect across boxes, buttons, selections, menus, and other system elements.
The dark mode is also a tweak to consider. This will change the appearance of the Dock, app windows, menu bar, and sidebars to a darker color. In addition, it will make the content shine. In the Appearance section, you can choose between Dark, Light, or Auto to set the desired look.
According to your Night Shift schedule, the Auto setting will automatically switch between Dark and Light modes.
You can customize the login screen by switching the user picture of the macOS account. Navigate to the System Settings > Users & Groups > select the existing profile picture and change it with a new photo from the Photos library. You can replace the picture with an Animoji or Memoji and click Save.
To customize this screen further, you can use an entertaining message on your Mac’s Lock Screen. You can do this by going to System Settings > Lock Screen > turn on Show message when locked > click the Set button and enter the message > click OK.
Then, when you restart your system or select the Lock Screen option from the Apple menu, you will see your custom message.
For adding personal touches to your Mac system, you can play around with the in-built settings of the installed applications.
For example, Dark mode enthusiasts can check out UI themes in apps like Things, Bear, Ulysses, and Spark. In addition, most of the third-party apps will quickly adjust their appearance according to the system settings.
You can even change how some of the apps feel and look in Dark mode. For example, you can change how the emails are rendered in the Mail app by tweaking the colors and fonts. Head to Mail > Settings > Fonts & Color.
You can also do the same for TextEdit and Notes. Again, the background appearance can be tweaked, and the apps can have a light background even though you’ve turned on Dark mode.
If you use the Terminal application frequently, you can modify and get a new skin for the app. First, go to Settings > Profile when the app is launched and choose one of the themes to use. Then, select Ok to confirm your choice.
