Texting has always been one of the major sources of communication. No matter what the platform is, users tend to prefer texting over any other means. The same goes with Discord, and the fun part of this platform is that it lets you format your text too. So if you want to stand out with your texts, then Discord text formatting can be your way.

However, this whole Discord code formatting can be a little too puzzling if you aren’t fully aware of the right steps. But now that I’m here, you have got nothing to worry about. Here’s a guide that will decode all the discord chat commands and discord fonts commands for you.

Let’s dive in!

What is Discord Text Formatting?

As the name says most of it, Discord text formatting means assigning special styles and fonts to the texts that you send to your friends on Discord. To achieve that, there’s a markdown system on Discord. For this, all you have to do is add a few special characters before and after the text to give it a special effect.

Text Formatting Commands
Strike Through ~~your text~~
Bold **your text**
Italics *your text* or _your text_
Bold Italics ***your text***
Underline __your text__
Underline and Bold __**your text**__
Underline Italics __*your text*__
Underline, Italics, and Bold ___***your text***___
Spoiler Tags ||your text||
Empty Lines Shift+enter
Single Line Code Block `your text`
Multiple Line Code Block “`your text”`
Single Line Quote >your text
Multiple Lines Quote >>>your text

These are some commands you can use for text formatting on your Discord. Let’s move ahead and learn what Discord Markdown is.

What is Discord Markdown?

Discord uses Markdown for its text formatting system. Markdown is basically a language that is used for tasks like text formatting on forums, simple texts, readme files, etc. The motive for using this language is that it’s quite lightweight to the other ones and can also run in the background.

This single language is responsible for all kinds of text formatting on Discord, be it bold, italic, strike-through, or underline.

How to Format Texts on Discord?

Users can opt for Discord text formatting commands to alter their texts on Discord the way they want. They can use discord text commands to bold, italic, underline, or strike through their texts.

One can simply use the Markdown language to make their texts fancy and more stylish.

Let’s move ahead and learn different text formatting commands.

Strike Through

There’s a Discord text command that users can use to strike through; put a line over their texts on Discord. One can use this type of text formatting for anything. Here’s how:

To enable the strike-through format on your texts, you will have to put two “~” before and after the text that you want to strike through.

Just like:  ~~Text~~

Bold Text

There are times when we want to highlight some of our texts to make them stand out. Bolding them would surely help here. So to bold your texts on Discord, you just have to add two Asterisks symbols before and after your texts.

Just like: **Text**

Italics Text

If you think that bolding a text would be a little too much but still want to make the text stand out a little, you can make it in the Italic format. To have the italics format on your text, you just have to add one asterisk before and after your text. Another discord-type command for turning your text into Italics is using one underscore before and after your text.

Just like: *Text* or _Text_

Underlined Text

A text is usually underlined when we have to mark something as important. Well then, you must be glad to know there’s a command to underline a text on Discord too. Just add two underscores before and after the text, and you will have your text underlined.

Just like: __Text__

Spoiler Tag

Have you ever unintentionally given away a spoiler and later regretted it for the person that you may have ruined the movie’s end for them? If yes, then the spoiler tag may be of some help here.

The spoiler tag is used to hide some parts of the text, so only when a user clicks on it intentionally the text becomes visible to them. So to have the spoiler tag appear on your text, you must add two vertical bars before and after your text.

Just like: ||Text||

Empty Lines

On some platforms, you can’t hit the enter key to change the line of the text; there, pressing the enter key will send the text that has been written since then. This can be a little too infuriating when you want to separate the lines of the text.

Well, I have a solution for this. You can simply add an empty line under a text that you want to separate and then start with the new one. All you have to do for this is press the Shift+Enter keys simultaneously.

Code Blocks

With the Discord code block, you can put a part of your text into a block. You can even use variations of these cod blocks, from single to multiple line code blocks.

Single line code block- To amble the single line code block, all you have to do is put a single grave accent before and after your text.

Just like: `Text`

Multiple line code block- To include your code block on multiple lines, you need to use three grave accents before and after the text. You can also use Shift+Enter to break the lines.

Just like: “`Text“`

Quote Text

With these block codes, you can mark someone as a quote on Discord. To use the block quote on Discord, all you have to do is put “>” at the beginning of the text followed by space. You can even use the block quote for multiple lines.

Just like: > Text, or >>> Text

So, these were all the commands you can use for Discord text formatting to make your texts stand out. But can you merge two or more commands? Let’s find out.

Can You Merge Different Commands on Discord?

Of course, you can. You can mix multiple commands on Discord and make your text as unique as you want. Let’s look at some examples:

1. Strike Through and Bold.

You can easily use the Discord strike-through and the bold text altogether. All you have to do is put both commands on your text. Here’s how- put two tides and two asterisks on your text.

Just like: ~~**Text**~~

2. Italics and Underline

Another example can be combining italics and underlined texts. For this, too, all you have to do is add both commands to your text, and you’ll have the desired results. Use one asterisk and two underscores on your text.

Just like: *__Text__*

Wrapping Up

Well, these were all the text formatting techniques and commands you can use to make your Discord texts more elegant and stylish. All you have to do is keep the right command in your mind to get the desired results, and you will be good to go.
