It has been a while since iPhone users have been able to check on their battery health information right from the “Settings App.” But this feature never came to the iPad, and that is until now.
With the launch of the new M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro, Apple is finally bringing the “Battery Health” menu to the iPadOS.
First found by iCulture, all the new iPads launched last week (M2 Air and the M4 Pro) will feature a new Battery Health menu for the very first time in history. This means that iPad owners can now easily check the maximum battery capacity of their devices without relying on any third-party apps.
Apple has done more than just add maximum battery capacity. Just like the iPhone 15 models, the new M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro also provide an option that limits the maximum charge to 80% to preserve the lifespan of the internal battery. As a result, the iPad automatically stops charging when it reaches 80%.
But there’s a catch to this. None of this will be made available to any of the past models. And yes, this still applies even if you update your iPadOS to the latest version.
So, old users might still need to keep relying on third-party apps. While it’s still possible that Apple will change this in the future, as of now, it seems pretty unlikely that only the latest iPad devices will be getting this feature.
