Apple recently announced their new line of iPads at their May 7th event and there is some concerning news for all iPad users. Apple’s new iPad Air and Pro models, which were announced at the event, will no longer come with a sim-card slot.
The company has revealed that each listing of these new tablets will now only support eSIM. First confirmed by 9to5Mac and later confirmed by IGN, if you check the FAQ section for the pre-ordering page for both the seventh-gen iPad Pro and the sixth-gen iPad Air, you can see that both devices will not include a SIM card tray anymore.
This is the first time that iPads have ditched the option for picking between eSIM and a physical SIM in their cellular models since Apple introduced this option in 2018. And while these new iPads are not the first Apple devices to ditch the physical SIM, it is somewhat concerning as to what Apple is planning to do in the future.
eSIM has been becoming more and more popular over the last couple of years and many big-name tech companies are releasing devices that use the eSIM tech. Now almost every major network provider, including Verizon, T-Mobile, and Google Fiber, supports eSIMs in most phones.
