On September 9, Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 10 at its Glowtime Event. The Apple watches are prevalent for their fundamental health features. However, the Series 10 models have ‘sleep apnea detection’ but lack the blood oxygen measure feature.
Unfortunately, the blood oxygen feature will not be present for US users. Some specific countries and regions will facilitate the same feature in the Apple Watch Series 10. This happens because of the ongoing legal disputes with the patent company Masimo.
The blood oxygen app was introduced in the 6 series and all upgraded models of Apple watches. This feature can detect the oxygen level in the blood directly through Apple watches. As a result, Apple watches can analyze the overall health score.
According to TechCrunch reports, “The feature’s exclusion is a product of Apple’s ongoing patent battle with medical device company Masimo. The dispute forced Apple to disable the feature on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 late last year.”
TechCrunch continued, “Apple has not discussed whether the feature’s removal was a hardware change on the Series 10 or if it was simply disabled via the software, like with the Series 9. We’ll know more after the smartwatch goes on sale and the teardown experts do their thing. If it’s a hardware fix, then Apple would have had to design slightly different models for each market.”
It is suspected that when the dispute with Masimo is settled, Apple will allow the blood oxygen feature for US users.
