The tech giant Apple has introduced a significant feature in iOS 18, designed to assist users in restoring their bricked iPhone 16 devices without needing a Mac or PC. A “bricked” phone occurs when a software issue renders the device unresponsive and has historically required complex fixes or professional assistance.
In the absence of your Mac, reviving your non-responsive iPhone can prove to be problematic. Apple, with the latest iOS 18, has eased this condition.
The new feature called “Direct Recovery” allows users to revive their bricked iPhones from anywhere. This process can be initiated using another nearby iPhone running iOS 18. Users simply have to place their bricked phone close to a functional iPhone. After that, one will get a recovery prompt. So, instead of using a computer, one can recover the phone over the air and install the most current firmware without a cable or any other interface.
This is particularly beneficial for individuals who run into software problems while upgrading that previously required doing a physical connection to a Mac. In the tech giant’s words, this method is quicker and less tedious than conventional methods.
By enabling the new capability in iOS 18, Apple aims to reduce service center visits and instill more self-confidence in customers when occurring unexpected software issues.
