Apple has released a software update to address the vulnerabilities that cybercriminals are actively taking advantage of on Intel-based Mac systems. In the security notice; it was confirmed by the company that it has identified two vulnerabilities that may have been exploiting Intel-based Mac systems actively.
These issues have been labelled as zero day vulnerabilities and to fix them Apple has rolled out an update for macOS and has also listed down fixes for iPads and iPhones. It is for all the users including those as well who have been using older iOS 17 operating software.
The company in a statement mentioned that by processing maliciously crafted web content, there is a chance for arbitrary code execution. A report has been received by Apple that indicates that these issues may be exploiting Intel-based Mac systems.
As per Apple, the issue of cyber attacks on Mac devices was mitigated through enhanced checks however, it is still unclear who is behind this attack targeting Mac users or so far how many users have been affected yet. The vulnerabilities pertain to the web engines that power Safri and manage web content, JavaScriptCore and WebKit.
Apple has encouraged its users to quickly update their Macs, iPads and iPhones to stay safe from this attack and protect their data. A new alert to iPhone users in 98 countries including India was issued in July, the alert was about a potential mercenary spyware campaign which is a lot similar to ‘Pegasus’.
In its alert, Apple informed the users that they were being targeted by a spyware attack that aimed to take control of the iPhone device which is linked to their Apple ID. Moreover, manufacturers of iPhones also noticed that the attack was likely aimed at the users because of their identity and occupation for ulterior motives.
