During a Glowtime event, Apple launched the latest Apple Watch Series 10 and announced the new health feature to its watch series 10 along with 9 and Ultra 2.
Apple introduced the ‘sleep apnea’ feature to measure breathing disturbances during sleep. Apple Watch metric uses the accelerometer to detect small movements at the wrist. It can notify the users of the signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea after 30 days. This will help users to consult doctors for the prevention of their health.
According to Apple’s newsroom reports–
“Empowering consumers everywhere to have the ability to reliably identify the presence of abnormal breathing patterns during sleep can help uncover a woefully underdiagnosed and serious medical condition such as sleep apnea,” said Sairam Parthasarathy, M.D., University of Arizona Health Sciences Center for Sleep, Circadian, and Neurosciences’s professor and director in Tucson, Arizona. “This is a major step forward in improving public health.”
“The detection algorithm was developed using advanced machine learning with an extensive dataset of clinical-grade sleep apnea tests,” said Dr. Sumbul Desai, vice president of Health at Apple during the event. “It was then validated in a clinical study unprecedented in size for sleep apnea technology. We are so excited about the incredible impact this feature can make for the millions of people living with undiagnosed sleep apnea.”
In addition to features of the Apple Watch Series 10, it can monitor heart rate and respiratory rate to help users achieve and keep track of their sleep goals. This will prove to be a great innovation for health as sleep is essential for good lifestyle.
