After going silent for quite a while, Black Myth: Wukong is back, and now with a brand new trailer that was unveiled at the recent WeGame showcase in partnership with IGN. The game was first announced in 2020 when the studio revealed a short 13-minute gameplay trailer.
The footage gave players a look into stunning visuals, smooth movements, next-gen realistic graphics, and a great dynamic combat system that felt pretty close to real combat. And while the gameplay was narrated in Mandarin, it didn’t stop the clip from getting over 10 million views overnight.
At the time, the studio had admitted that the game was still “far from completion” and they were using the video as a tool to gauge player interest. The game was initially aiming for a 2023 release, but it was delayed to 2024.
Now, just a couple of months before its release, the studio has dropped a new WeGame Event trailer, and it’s jam-packed with action, lore, and a lot of monkey business.
The game is based on a popular 16th-century novel from the Ming Dynasty named “Journey to the West.” The story follows a Buddhist monk who travels from his home to India to bring back a holy text while being accompanied by the Monkey King and other Mystical beings.
In the game, you become the Monkey God himself. You can transform into a small insect or a giant monster. And, based on the trailer, we can also see many different types of enemies throughout the gameplay.
Only time will tell what the final release of the game will really look like, but from the trailers, we can gather that the game will be a huge hit and will become a fan favorite. Black Myth: Wukong is set to release on 20 August 2024.
