DMV Launches Digital Driver’s License for Smartphones

The DMV now has a new way to carry your driver’s license. It is called the New York Mobile ID. This is a smartphone-based driver’s license, learner’s permit, or ID.

This app is available to download if you have an ID, learner’s permit, or driver’s license. The app works on Apple and Android phones. It is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The DMV told everyone about this new app at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. LaGuardia is one of nearly 30 airports where you can use your New York Mobile ID at TSA checkpoints. This makes passing through security quicker and easier. 

You do not need to look through your bag for your driver’s license. It is directly on your phone.

According to Lisa Koumjian of the New York State DMV, “It makes it easier and faster to get through security.” You do not have to dig through your purse or carry-on to find your driver’s license; it is right on your phone. You don’t need to pull up your boarding pass. When you use the NY Mobile ID, the TSA will know automatically whether or not you have a boarding pass.”

Remember, the mobile ID will not work everywhere yet. You should still carry your physical identification with you.
