Blocked users on X/Twitter will soon be allowed to view all posts but not interact with them. This news was confirmed on Monday by a web developer, Nima Owji and confirmed by Elon Musk in reply to the X post.
Elon Musk also added that, “The block button for public accounts was a stupid feature since everyone could view the posts from their browsers’ incognito mode.”
While no one knows how Nima got this information, however, after Elon Musk’s reply, social media has been buzzing with mostly negative reactions. Users on X have expressed that despite all the online security policies, harassment can still take place because, with the posts now visible, abusers can now take a screenshot of any post to misuse it for their benefit.
The purpose of the Block User feature online and on mobile phones is to disable any communication with an unsafe account. But also, when abusers cannot see any activity, then there are fewer chances of any indirect manipulation.
The platform X has always been snubbed for controversial political and biased remarks that led to the Cancel Culture threats on celebrities. For the general public, it’s even more stressful to face online abusers and hackers.
Considering all these reasons, allowing blocked users to see online activities of their victims is not a good idea. Till now, there is no information regarding when this feature is going to be available, however, we hope Elon Musk reconsiders making any changes to the blocked users settings.
