Just a few weeks to the announcement but a leaked hands-on video gave a peek at the Google Pixel 9a. Share initially through Discord but later taken down, the video was sent by the tech YouTuber Shane Craig on Threads.
He seems to confirm prior rumors that the new model will carry an updated design language, which means it is moving away from the traditional bar-style camera module generally used with the older Pixel devices.
The video shows the back of the phone with a matte, smooth finish. Also, the middle has a prominently placed Google logo, and the camera module is seamlessly integrated within the body, diverging from the elevated bar-style camera seen on prior Pixel models.
The right side hosts the power button and volume controls, while the left side doesn’t have any buttons. The front hasn’t been seen in the leaked video, but rumors say the device screen could have a size of 6.3 inches with an OLED display.
It is claimed that it will bring with itself a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ and is said to go up to 2,700 nits at its maximum brightness. The bezels on this display are said to be slightly thicker than that of the more premium models of Pixel 9.
One of the pictures captures the leaked shots and concerns the overall build quality of the phone. The original user from Discord, according to the report from Android Police, dubbed this phone a weird mishmash of a plastic-bodied Pixel 9a meets Nokia Lumia, as the build of the phone is not necessarily the most appealing.
Whether this will be seen as a positive or negative depends on each individual, but considering the price point as well as the previous A series-build histories, the cheapness of plastic choices was not a great surprise.
