Google has officially rolled out a trio of theft protection features to secure Android smartphone data in case of snatching. The safety features- Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock are introduced in Android 10+ and Android 15 through Google Play Service updates.

According to 9to5Google, you can search “Theft Protection” in the settings or go to the redesigned Google services page. Then, click on the All Services tab > Personal & device safety.

Furthermore, an Android Reporter, Mishaal Rahman posted on X about the new tool features and shared that the Theft Detection Lock and offline Device Lock are available on Xiaomi 14T Pro, and Remote Lock is available on other Android devices in the US.

Features of New Theft Protection Tools

  1. Theft Detection Lock- This feature uses an ML model to detect if someone snatches your phone and tries to run away either on foot or in any other vehicle. If the theft is detected, this tool automatically locks your phone to protect your personal information and apps.
  1. Offline Device Lock- This feature automatically locks your device when the thief disconnects the smartphone from the internet for an extended period. It will safeguard and prevent access to your device from the wrong hands.
  1. Remote Lock- This feature allows you to lock your device screen using a phone number and a quick security challenge from any device in case of theft. Additionally, it gives you enough time to send a full factory reset command using the Find My Device feature.

Moreover, Google posted in their blog post, “We’re committed to keeping your device and data secure on Android. We’re constantly developing new protections to help our users around the world.”
