This year has been restless for Google and they keep turning their wheels as to what they can add to their next Android OS updates that users might like. And this new update that Google is planning for the phone app has people all confused.
They will be adding new sound effects to the Android dialer. This was first spotted as part of a beta update by the 9to5Google team, and the app may soon let users tap one of the six “Audio Emoji” buttons to play a short sound clip that both people on the call can hear.
These sound effects include clapping, laughing, crying (with a sad, sliding trombone sound in the background), partying, a drum sting (ba-dum tss), and the poop, which you might have guessed already, produces a farting sound.
You can access the buttons during a call by tapping the option in the dialer menu. Well, the kid in us might just be tempted to try out this button at least once, but as adults, getting a reaction from this seems far too disingenuous to be any fun.
Realistically, this could all just be a product of boredom from one of Google’s engineers. This feature might see some more use as an automated answering system instead of a prank button in the future too.
But if Google is seriously planning to implement this feature, then we can only hope that someone does not use this feature to spam your calls with fart sounds. The Google I/O event will be held on 14th May, so hopefully there will be more news about this feature by then.
