The social media giant Mata has now begun pushing for AI on its platforms, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Rumor has it that this is not the only place Meta has tried implementing AI. Meta’s ad platform has also recently been flooded with AI-related ads and most of them are in the NSFW category.
In a recent search done by Wired, it was found that there are at least 29.000 ads for explicit AI “girlfriends” that have been published on Meta platforms. Most of these Ads contain sex-related messages and at least 19,000 ads have the word “NSFW” and about 14,000 have “NSFW AI” in them.
These new ads violate Meta’s adult content advertising policy. This policy pretty much bans advertisers from running ads that might contain adult content like nudity, depictions of people in explicit or suggestive positions, or activities that are overly suggestive or sexually provocative.
Over the years many users have claimed that Meta had targeted their accounts for containing similar content but these ads can coast through their checking.
When asked about it, Meta spokesperson Ryan Daniels told the media that the company prohibits such ads and they will be reviewing them and removing the ones that violate it. But the question still remains, if they are so strict in reviewing such ads, how did those get past them in the first place?
