VR Wars Heat Up: Meta Licenses Headset OS to Take on Apple’s Vision Pro
Meta is on a path to becoming the king of VR headsets now. In its recent newsroom post, Meta stated that it will be opening up its Horizon OS on the Quest Mixed Reality headsets to other tech companies like Lenovo, Asus, and Microsoft.
Aside from this, Meta is also pushing for more ways to discover alternative app stores. It is making its experimental app store more inclusive by even inviting Google to bring its Play Store to the Horizon OS.
In the post, Meta also said that it is also working on a spatial framework for developers so that they can easily port their mobile apps to the Horizon OS.
Meta has not yet shared more details on the business terms of its Horizon OS license, aside from its social network tie-ins and using Qualcomm chips.
Mark Zuckerberg CEO Meta has said in a recent video to just imagine what it would feel like to watch immersive entertainment like movies and videos with the highest resolution OLED screens out there.
Zuckerberg has made it clear that he wants his company to be a more open platform than Apple. And with Horizon Os he plans to do just that.
