Windows 11 Gets iOS-Inspired Start Menu: New ‘All Apps’ Layout Confirmed
Windows 11 would be releasing a brand new Start menu design for the ‘All’ apps section in versions 24H2 and 23H2, which would help users find their apps and games easily.
There would be two new organizing layouts for the apps that would be available to users. An Alphabetical Name-Group or Grid layout that simply lists the apps in alphabetical order, and the other option is Category where they have grouped them by type.
This exciting change is going to come with the Start Menu. Windows Latest first tipped the redesign of the Start menu’s ‘All’ section back in 2024, and we recently have shared our experience with the leaked version.
The assurance is that this feature will soon roll out for Windows 11 23H2 users. Those interested in testing the new capability may join the Beta Channel.
Though not clearly mentioned, Windows Latest hints about the same new Start Menu arrangement to be available in Windows 11 24H2. The update on the ‘All’ page now displays applications in a grid format, sorted by their alphabetical classification.
Each application is represented by a tile icon. For example, you will find Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Reader under the letter A. Moreover, the recently introduced ‘Category’ view now clusters apps according to their specific types, thus ensuring a more spacious and appealing interface that would feature larger icons.
It may not be the same with those adored previous live tiles from different Windows versions, but gives off quite a familiar feeling, also mirroring those organized app categories seen on iOS.
It should be noted that there are no features for generating user-defined custom categories, and it seems that there might be some tiny language models employed by Microsoft for auto-grouping apps.
The Start menu simply lists applications in alphabetical order down the left side, but promises to be transformed into a much more organized and user-friendly experience with this update.
