Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently announced that the company is planning to build a new regional data center in Thailand, as well as some other initiatives. Nadella also stated that the firm is also committed to AI development and they will be training over 100,000 people to support local developers as well.
It was just a day earlier that Nadella confirmed that the firm would invest $1.7 billion in Indonesia over the next four years to build new cloud and AI infrastructure.
According to Nadella, “Thailand has an incredible opportunity to build a digital-first, AI-powered fire.” He also stated that the investments will help drive impact and growth in Thailand’s public and private sectors.
There is rising demand for cloud computing services in Thailand from its companies and the commitments will allow the country to tap into economic and productivity opportunities arising from AI.
The AI boom has increased demand for cloud computing services and data centers because large amounts of data are required to train AI models, and the cloud provides access to massive datasets.
On Tuesday, Microsoft also revealed that they have much more planned to make AI skilling opportunities available to more than 2.5 million people in Southeast Asian nations by 2025.
