During a livestream event on Sunday, Nio CEO William Li showed the
company’s second factory in NeoPark, around 300 miles from Shanghai.
This factory had humanoid robots and robot dogs training for inspection tasks. Sino Auto posted on Weibo, “The factory also has humanoid robots and robot dogs in training for inspection tasks.”
The livestream also showed that production of the L60, the first model from Nio’s sub-brand Onvo, has started. These cars will be delivered on September 10. But, a Nio spokesperson told EV that these are just “test cars,” not the final ones for customers.
William Li introduced the L60 to a young audience in a video shared on Weibo, comparing it to the Tesla Model Y.
During the tour, which included a visit from children, it was noted that the factory uses 310 Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) transport robots and has an assembly workshop with 941 industrial robots.
Earlier this year, CnEVPost reported that Nio put together a “squad” of humanoid robots in 2023. Yi Peng, head of humanoid robots for intellectual engineering at Nio, shared this at the China Humanoid Robot Ecology Conference 2024 in Shanghai.
He explained Nio’s plans to use humanoid robots in its factories. Yi said they have tested these robots to fix robotic arms in tight spaces and use 5G and vision algorithms for multitasking and quality control.
