Nothing’s new earbuds

Tech companies are stepping up their game by introducing novel innovations in earbuds. Whether Apple launches AirPods that double as hearing aids or Bose introduces Ultra Open Earbuds, everyone competes. Now, Nothing has unveiled another innovative headphone, its first pair of open wearable stereo (OWS) earbuds. That could be better suited for activities where you want to hear what’s happening around you.

The new Nothing ear open fits in your ear and is more comfortable than earbuds that have silicon tips that go into your ear canal. Nothing’s earlier models, the Ear, and Ear (a), which were released in April of last year, have a marginally longer battery life of 8.5 and 9.5 hours, respectively, while the ANC is off. Despite its compact design and 19 millimeter thickness, the Nothing Ear Open can last up to 30 hours when periodically docked and recharged, or eight hours on a full charge.

The new buds lack wireless charging, however, nothing says a quick 10-minute charge with a USB-C cable will provide two hours of listening.

Nothing says the Ear (open) also includes its ultra-light driver, titanium coating, stepped design, and unique patent-pending diaphragm. And claims that the Ear’s unique design (open) improves bass frequencies and lessens distortion, while the titanium coating replicates clear high notes. The stepped driver physically brings the speaker closer to the ear without compromising comfort. The company claims the driver components are over 30% lighter than standard earbuds and boost mid and high frequencies.

Finally, Nothing asserts that an automated Bass Enhance algorithm enhances low-frequency frequencies for a fuller bass experience.

The company launched the product on Tuesday, September 2024, and can be preordered in the US, Canada, and Europe through the company’s website. Also, it will be available globally starting on October 1st.
