It’s been a fact for some time now that OpenAI has been planning to launch its own AI-powered search engine very soon and according to a new report, the day for the launch might be a lot closer.
This new report stated that OpenAI is attempting to stage this year’s Google I/O 2024 with the launch of its all-new search engine, “search.chatgpt.com.”
This Tuesday, May 14th, Google will be hosting its annual developer conference, which will see some of the biggest announcements about Google’s plan for the year. And high on the list, we are expecting to see Google’s take on AI and search, including how it plans to make the two come together.
But, it seems that OpenAI is planning to foul the plot by launching its Google competitor just a day ahead of the event. While the company has yet to confirm a specific date for its launch, many recent reports state that the search engine competitor may launch this Monday.
Earlier this week, a news article from Bloomberg stated that OpenAI’s search engine will be designed to rival Google, Perplexity, and Bing. The report also claimed that the new product would allow users to ask ChatGPT a question and have the chatbot respond with an answer that may include citations from many online sources, like news, blog posts, Wikipedia, and more.
It will apparently also be using images when the user asks for them.
