Samsung will no longer support the security updates for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 foldable smartphone, which was released in September 2020 and was priced at $1,800 at the time of release.

According to the 9to5Google report, Samsung officially excluded the Galaxy Z Fold 2 from the list of supported devices receiving updates. Apart from this, Tab A7 is also not on the update list. This doesn’t mean that both devices will stop functioning. However, the devices might be affected by malware and vulnerabilities and don’t support the security update. This resulted in a higher risk to users’ personal information and device data.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 released with highly anticipated features listed below.

  • Snapdragon 865+.
  • Folding 7.6″ 2208×1768 120Hz AMOLED display.
  • 12GB RAM.
  • 256GB storage.
  • 12MP main camera.
  • 12MP wide-angle camera.
  • 12MP ultra-wide camera.
  • Side-mounted capacitive fingerprint sensor.
  • Stereo speakers.

Despite this, Samsung is not interested in supporting its Fold 2 because of the competition in the market. The 2020 foldable phone might not compete with the rivalry (Google and OnePlus) based on AI compatibility. It is hard to believe for users who pay four figures amount for Galaxy Z Fold 2 with a security risk after 4 years. In comparison, Apple promises at least 5 years of security updates for its iPhone 15 series in 2023.

On the other hand, Samsung depends on third-party vendors, Qualcomm for upgrade commitments. Qualcomm Inc. has been known for processing chip resistance for long seven years for Samsung but excluded Galaxy 7 Fold 2.
