sony CEO retires

Sony has just announced that it will be replacing its former CEO Jim Ryan with two new names, Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst. This will come into effect on June 1st, 2024, Hideaki Nishino will be the CEO of SIE’s Platform Business Group, while Hulst will take the seat in SIE’s Studio Business Group.

Hideaki had been serving as the interim CEO before Ryan retired and will serve as Chairman of SIE in addition to his role as President, COO, and CFO of Sony Group Corporation. Both Hulst and Nishino will report to Totoki.

As Senior VP of the platform experience group, Nishino has already set himself into PlayStation’s hardware and tech operations.

Sony has commented that Nishino will continue to be responsible for tech, products, services, and the platform experience, as well as overseeing other daily operations in the company.

On the other hand, Hulst is currently the senior VP and Head of the PlayStation Studio. This means that alongside developing content for the PlayStation, he has helped in the growth of the PS IPs across film and TV through PlayStation Productions

Sony announced Ryan’s retirement last September, with the former PlayStation head exiting the company this past March. In his initial announcement, Ryan cited the difficulty of living in Europe while working in North America as a reason for the decision to leave the company after 30 years.
