Last year, in October, Mark Zuckerberg said that Meta is hoping to turn Thread into a “public conversation app for a billion people”. It was the time when Thread reached its first 100 million active users and became the fastest growing app in history to reach this milestone.
As time passed, Thread continued to gain its growth momentum and now finally reached its 200 million active user’s milestone, as confirmed by Thread’s chief Adam Mosseeri on the Meta’s Q2 earnings call.

This means that the platform just took a year to reach the ultimate number. However, most of the traffic comes from linking Thread with Intagram. But again, Profile created due to its Instagram integration and active monthly users are two different things.
According to the recently shared usage data, The growth rate of Thread can be seen rising significantly in the recent weeks.
And, as we can see in the chart above, we can finally admit that Zuck wasn’t lying about the growth momentum of Thread.
If we calculate the average new users to the platform per month from October 2023 to July 2024, the number would be approx 8.25 million. Which got a significant rise in last 4 weeks, adding almost 25 million more users to the platform.
