Threads Get Personal

Threads and Instagram head Adam Mosseri recently announced that Threads will be launching a new feature that will let users filter out specific words and phrases from their feeds and mentions.

The new “Hidden Words” feature will automatically mute common words, phrases, and emojis that might be offensive to users. Aside from this, users can also add their own custom words and phrases in the settings. The filter can be turned off at any time the user deems it necessary.

Earlier this week, the dating app Hinge also launched its own “Hidden Words” feature to block requests with comments that might contain some unwanted words.

Threads has also commented that the feature will allow users to filter out said words and phrases from the “Following” and “For You” feeds, search results, profiles, and replies to posts.

The app already allows users to control who can reply to their posts, and that’s not all, Threads also has the option to restrict who can mention you in their posts, replies, and bios.

The company is now planning to introduce similar controls for quote posts too. Threads said that it will soon let you limit who can block your posts. Aside from this, users will also be able to manually unquote their posts.
