VisionOS 2

Apple’s VisionOS 2, the operating system powering its Vision Pro headset, is set to launch next week. VisionOS 2 significantly improves the immersive, augmented reality experience introduced by Apple with Vision Pro. However, the company confirmed the three anticipated features won’t be available until later this year.

Here is a comprehensive list of the most significant features that will be incorporated into visionOS 2 next week:

1. Enhanced Eye-Tracking

Improved precision and responsiveness for a more natural interaction with apps and media.

2. Spatial Audio Upgrades

More immersive 3D soundscapes, that adapt to your environment and head movements.

3. Customizable Control Interfaces

Users can personalize virtual controls and interfaces based on individual preferences.

4. Improved App Integration

Enhanced support for third-party apps, with better app switching and multitasking.

5. Advanced Augmented Reality (AR) Capabilities

New AR tools for developers, allowing richer mixed-reality experiences.

6. Eye and Hand Gesture Integration

Expanded hand gesture options, integrating with eye movements for more fluid interaction.

7. Virtual Workspace Enhancements

A more refined and customizable virtual environment designed for multitasking and productivity.

8. Improved Battery Management

Optimized power usage for extended sessions without sacrificing performance.

9. Expanded Device Ecosystem

Cross-device functionality with other Apple products for a more cohesive experience across the Apple ecosystem.

Besides these amazing features, the VisionOS 2 still lacks the most anticipated ones. These delayed features include:

  • Expanded hand gesture control
  • A refined virtual workspace environment
  • Multi-device syncing capabilities.

Despite the delay, Apple remains optimistic, stating that these features will roll out in updates planned for late 2024. Early adopters will still have access to a range of exciting capabilities at launch. They will include advanced spatial computing, eye-tracking, and immersive media experiences. VisionOS 2 is rolled out to launch globally on September 25, 2024.
