WhatsApp release passkey feature

After the successful integration of passkey verification on Android, WhatsApp will now be doing the same for its iOS users as well. This will pretty much remove the need for users to deal with SMS one-time passcodes to log into their WhatsApp accounts.

This iOS launch comes just six months after the passkey update for Android was released. The company announced on Wednesday that this feature will be rolling out in the coming weeks and will be available to all iOS users globally.

Once the feature is enabled, iOS users can log back into their WhatsApp accounts using the passkey verification via their facial recognition, biometrics, or a PIN, which will be stored on Apple’s passkey manager.

WhatsApp Passkey Feature

Passkeys will essentially make hacking into your WhatsApp accounts harder, as they would also need to be holding your phone physically to get in. This method will reduce our reliance on the old username and password combination, as they are susceptible to phishing attacks.

According to a statement given by WhatsApp Head of Product, Alice Newton Rex, “The Passkey verification will make logging back into WhatsApp easier and more secure. We’re excited to launch this on WhatsApp and give users an added layer of security.”

By completing this process, WhatsApp will finally be joining numerous other companies that have launched passkey support on their platforms recently, this includes X (formerly Twitter), Paypal, Google, and TikTok.
