June 11, 2024 – New features for visionOS 2, the software that powers the Vision Pro headset, were discussed during Apple’s WWDC 2024 event. They showed some changes, but the best updates were not talked about much.
One notable feature is the ability to use a Magic Keyboard in a virtual space. Users can also use any Bluetooth mouse and move homescreen icons, including iPad and iPhone apps. These facilitate the use of the Vision Pro.
visionOS 2 will also save eye and hand settings for guest users for 30 days. This makes it easier to share the Vision Pro with others because they will not have to configure it each time.
For sports fans, Apple is adding a five-screen multiview streaming feature to the Apple TV app. Users can also stream content from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the Vision Pro using AirPlay. This is useful for playing games or watching videos.
Another cool feature is breaking out videos from webpages into floating video players. This is useful because there are currently no specific apps for the Vision Pro available for services like YouTube and Netflix.
There are even more features in the notes for the initial developer beta of visionOS 2. Users can place app windows farther away and resize volumetric windows to face them while lying down. Virtual environments can be offloaded to free up space, and full-screen videos can be re-centered while lying down.
Apple’s visionOS 2 update includes numerous necessary improvements and new features, making the Vision Pro better and easier to use.
