Elon Musk, CEO of X, will likely resume full operations in Brazil after consenting to several court orders issued by the country’s judiciary. Platform X was temporarily banned in the entire country due to numerous litigations. Musk was accused of not complying with local regulations regarding misinformation and illicit content that was shared on his platform.
The supreme federal court and judge in charge, De Moras, previously ordered the elimination of accounts and publications related to disinformation campaigns. More specifically, those posts that aimed at undermining the credibility of the electoral process in the country. The fine and threats of further action including suspension of X in Brazil were due to noncompliance.
In a considerable development, Musk has now complied with these terms. X’s legal team indicated that it has cooperated with the Brazilian courts’ orders because it wanted to keep operating in one of its most important international markets. The platform should put into effect, as predicted, more stringent standards for moderating its content like those in the legislative jurisdictions. This is to prevent additional similar legal battles.
Also, the Brazilian authorities have praised Musk’s decision after viewing it as a step in defense of democratic institutions from online influences. And, this is the first time Musk in a similar challenge he has publicly shied away from in response to other challenges in other countries.
