Way back in March, YouTube started testing its new “jump ahead” feature and is now finally rolling out the feature to its users. But for now, this new feature will only be available through youtube.com/new and for Premium subscribers only.
To use the feature, users simply need to double-tap the skip-ahead button. They will then see a button that jumps to where most viewers would typically skip ahead. This new pill-shaped “Jump ahead” button appears for a couple of seconds in the bottom-right corner before disappearing if you just want to go ahead by 10 seconds.
When YouTube first previewed this new feature a couple of weeks ago, it was referred to as a very small experiment that was only available to some users. This feature is now available to more and more users through the youtube.com/new experiments page.
And though this is only visible to mobile users for now, it will be launched on more devices in the future. Currently, only users in the US can avail of this feature and it is only available for English videos. The most common videos where this feature can be accessed are ones with over a million views.
Aside from this, you must also be a member of YouTube Premium to be able to get this feature activated for your account, with a June 1 end date listed for this experiment.
